Category: News

If you’re currently planning your next holiday, you might be looking to treat yourself but worried about the cost.

Great hotels don’t need to cost the earth, however. A recent report from Which? has uncovered a whole range of 5-star hotels across 76 countries worldwide, to give bargain-loving travellers the lowdown on the finest affordable accommodation.

Here are five of the best and cheapest hotels from their list.

1. Emerald Bay Hotel & Spa in Nha Trang, Vietnam (£22 a night)

The cheapest of all the hotels on the list, this was described by one guest as a “hidden gem”. With a range of family rooms, interconnecting options, ocean views and contemporary design, there’s little to suggest anything but the height of luxury, despite the low cost.

Two swimming pools offer beautiful cityscape views, and if you’re a gym-goer, you can enjoy stunning mountain scenery as you work out. There’s a dedicated play area for little ones, plus a private beach for relaxing, sunbathing, and swimming.

The nearby Tram Huong Tower is visually stunning and designed to represent the culture and beliefs of the Nha Trang people. Inside, you’ll find local pictures and products to reflect the beauty of the land and its people.

Visiting the region means sampling some of the local delicacies, too. Try some delicious and surprisingly sweet squid pancakes or tuck into some apricot fish salad. Don’t be fooled by the name, there are no apricots in it! The tiny apricot fish is very clear and odourless. Mixed with onions, carrots and peanuts, it’s particularly tasty with a sweet and sour sauce.

2. Angkor Miracle Resort and Spa, Cambodia (£49 a night)

This 324-room resort boasts enormous rooms featuring traditional Cambodian décor. Choose from deluxe rooms and VIP suites, with a choice of bed configurations and interconnecting rooms if you’re travelling with your family.

The Karma Spa offers a tranquil, peaceful place for you to relax and unwind, with a range of treatments to enjoy if you fancy something extra special. The swimming pool, complete with a poolside bar, also offers plenty of space for relaxation, as well as leisurely swimming.

If you fancy some more vigorous exercise, the on-site, air-conditioned gym is fully equipped for your workout.

If you’re the adventurous type, Quad Adventure Cambodia offers a brilliant opportunity to get out into the countryside and explore the real Cambodia. If you still want to explore but in a slightly more peaceful manner, the nearby ox cart tours are a great way to take in the local sights.

3. Grand Hotel Continental Bucharest, Romania (£87 a night)

Featuring 59 guest rooms, all with a minibar and LCD TV, this is a truly luxurious hotel right in the heart of Bucharest. On-site spa services and Turkish baths are available to help you rest and relax, while the garden and terrace offer beautiful, scenic views. The hotel’s two restaurants feature international cuisine, or you can take advantage of room service.

Revolution Square is just a short walk away, where you can soak up some of the country’s past and recent history. Art lovers can enjoy the National Museum of Art, based at the Royal Palace in the Square, featuring collections of medieval and modern Romanian art.

4. Suites Plaza Hotel & Wellness Andorra (£107 a night)

Boasting 140 rooms and suites, all with views of the main boulevard or garden, this luxury hotel also features themed rooms for little ones, including space, a circus, and the jungle.

The child-friendly spa offers treatments for all ages, plus a gym and heated pool. Meanwhile, the “Kids & Teens Club” is a fun, recreational space for your younger family members to enjoy some time with their peers.

Andorra is filled with natural beauty, with 10% of the country declared a world heritage site by Unesco. Visit three of the amazing natural parks: the Madriu-Perafita-Claror region, the Comapedrosa Valley, and the Sorteny Valley, for some truly stunning sights and scenery.

5. Hotel Riu Plaza Guadalajara, Mexico (£83 a night)

Based right in the city centre, this hotel has more than 500 rooms to choose from. The Moon Liz Spa offers a wide array of relaxing treatments, or you can enjoy a swim in the pool and then relax in the poolside Balinese beds.

Choose from delicious, diverse dishes at the hotel’s two restaurants, or simply enjoy a drink and a snack at the pool and lobby bars.

If you fancy a shopping trip, the Gran Plaza Fashion Mall is nearby. There are also a range of excursions available to discover the Guadalajaran culture, landscape and attractions.
