Joan: Advising parents in later life

I’ve been with Globe and known Tom since 1999. Tom helped my parents and especially when they died he helped me sort out a lot of financial issues there. Tom has helped me immensely in all aspects of my financial life. As far as my personal situation goes, my parents passed on Tom’s information to me as inheritance tax was one of the issues that my parents were quite concerned about; hence because of that, that followed on with me.

Anything that I’ve had a query with I just email [Tom] and I get an answer. That’s the confidence that I love. My future is secure. I’ve got the confidence and reassurance, and along with that, the honesty and integrity that I find is very important.

I’m very, very cautious as far as finances go. I’m not a spender, but at the same time, I do like to know that my money is safe and secure. And that is something that my husband and I can say, hand on heart, that has been something that we have total confidence with.

Tom’s been our rock really. I think even if I said to him “What shall I do with these shares?” or “What should I do with this letter that I’ve had from Aviva to do with my pension?” or something like that, he just sends back a reassuring, simple, easy to understand answer.

In another aspect, it’s simplified our financial life, 100 per cent. Financial advice is something that is out there; it’s on the internet. However, the personal side of it all is very, very important. And to have that security of knowing that the decisions are being made correctly for you, and you are getting the correct advice – it’s just given me 100 per cent confidence with whatever we’ve chosen to do.

I think the best thing I can honestly say about working with Globe, is to know that there is the confidence – and I keep using this word, confidence – of knowing that the decisions you make are right. And I will continue doing that because of my children; I’m passing that on to them. There’s no-one else out there that I would use, to be quite honest. I can thoroughly recommend their expertise. And the personal touch, that’s more important; the personal touch.
