South African big cats and the threat of coronavirus – all the latest news and opinion in your Globe IFA team update

Category: News

It’s been a busy few months at Globe IFA, so here’s your update to everything that our team has been up to.

Alongside the hard work that went into delivering our new website and our monthly newsletter, we’ve enjoyed some downtime too.

From the French Alps to a South African game reserve, via Glastonbury and the threat posed by the coronavirus, it’s been a truly international start to the year.

So, with a lot of miles to cover, we start our Globe IFA team update with a ski trip to Méribel.

The French Alps

Director and IFA, Tom, has recently returned from a family skiing holiday in Méribel. He has this to say:

“It’s been an interesting start to the roaring 20s…

“After a very busy 2019, I took some time out with ten members of my family to ski in Méribel in mid-January. It was a fabulous week of solid skiing, marred only by the occasional indignity of being sped past by family members less than half my age!

“However, not a single argument was had!”

Coronavirus and the stock market

January also brought news of the coronavirus outbreak. Of its potential impact on the stock market, Tom has this to say:

“The stock markets took fright, but active investors are already chomping at the bit. Buying into the stock market now – at substantial reductions – should yield terrific results in the medium-term once we get back to business as usual.

“I would encourage every investor to remember that when all around you are fearful, get greedy. When all around you are greedy, get fearful.

“I suspect those that read this and invest over the next three or four months will look back in a few years and appreciate the benefits of investing when you can get so much more value for your money! Just ask those that invested in March 2009 during the financial crisis!”

Big cats in the Eastern Cape

Globe Director and IFA John Pickles and his wife have recently returned from an incredible trip to South Africa, staying at the Kariega Game Reserve.

“We simply couldn’t believe it when our guide placed us in the very centre of a herd of elephants,” says John.

“The tusk of an approaching male came within six inches of me. On top of that, we came within three metres of a group of five lions. All the creatures were completely relaxed and comfortable with our presence. Our guide was fantastic too.

“Now I must find a way of getting back to business!”

Which brings us to our newest member of staff

Following the recent expansion of the Globe IFA mortgage department, Mortgage Advisor James is pleased to announce the appointment of Sherry Li, as an additional Mortgage and Protection Administrator.

Sherry has a wealth of experience in the industry and will add real value to the business. She will be working remotely from her Twickenham home most of the time but will be heading into the office to join us when required.

We’d like to officially welcome Sherry to the team and wish her all the best for her Globe career.

Glastonbury 2020

Finally, Chartered Financial Planner Andrew had been set to join Paul McCartney, Taylor Swift, and Diana Ross at this year’s Glastonbury Festival.

A keen guitarist and gig-goer, Andrew wasn’t due to grace the main stage (yet!) but had been accepted as a volunteer on the site’s Recycling Crew.

We’ve recently heard that this year’s festival has been postponed in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak, with tickets rolling over to next year. We at Globe fully support the only sensible decision in the current client, only lamenting that we’ll have to wait that much longer to hear about Andrew’s festival experiences.
